Draft:Freedom

Freedom (Ukrainian: Воля, romanized: Volia), often referred to as Свобода (Ukrainian pronunciation: [ˈvɔlʲɑ]), is an anarchist political and militant group that controls and operates within portions of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone in northern Ukraine.[1][2][3][4]

Since the early 2010s, the group has been in a state of sustained conflict with SBU and the Russian Ground Forces, alongside other paramilitary groups inside the Zone[1]. Freedom has primarily employed a strategy of armed self defense combined with resistance rather than large scale military attacks. Its core membership consists largely of independent stalkers, though the movement has attracted supporters from outside the Exclusion Zone, including foreign volunteers and sympathizers[2]. The group does not maintain a formal leadership hierarchy, though several long-standing commanders have acted as de facto spokespeople at various times[3].

The movement takes its name from its central ideological emphasis on freedom of movement and access within the Zone, and it portrays itself as the ideological successor to earlier anti-authoritarian currents that emerged in the Zone following its current trespassing by civilian activity.
