Gashcat was an American indie folk band formed in Austin, Texas in 2010, later relocating to Shreveport.[1]

The initial reception of the band's music was positive[2]. After releasing an album, a demo and an EP, as well as playing unrecorded songs on tours, it disbanded in 2013, partially because of persistent negative comparison to Neutral Milk Hotel. The lead singer, Kyle Craft, would later shift to a solo career.

Cited influences include Bob Dylan and The Beatles[3]. The band's songs' lyrics were ambiguous, once again reflecting the songwriting of Jeff Mangum, the lead singer of Neutral Milk Hotel.
