Genius KD (born Emmanuel Duah) is a Ghanaian Afro-fusion singer, songwriter, and cultural researcher from Mankranso, Ashanti Region, Ghana. He is known for a self-described "Alt-Afro-Fusion" style that blends alternative music textures with Afrocentric rhythms and highlife influences. He began his professional music career in 2012 and is currently based in Germany.
Early life and education
Emmanuel Duah was born and raised in Mankranso in Ghana's Ashanti Region. He began writing and recording music professionally in 2012 during his secondary school years. He is an MPhil candidate in History, combining academic research with his music career.[1]
Career
2012–2017: Early career
Genius KD began collaborating with Ghanaian music producers in 2013, including Rayne, Khendibeatz, KQTHEARTIST, Survivor Beatz, Jakhan Gravity, and Bla Broda. His debut single "Art", featuring Mr. Muffin and produced by Netherlands-based producer Tantu, marked his formal entry into Ghana's music scene.[2]
His early singles including "Light It Up", "Lie Lie", "Ego Love", and "Bad Energy" earned him radio airplay on stations including YFM Kumasi, Angel FM, Orange FM 107.9, and Garden City Radio.
2018: Sweat & Prospect
In 2018, Genius KD released the single "Never Let Go" (produced by Rayne) and announced his debut EP, Sweat & Prospect. That same year, in partnership with Lifestyle Dynasty Management, he released "MK Story", a tribute song dedicated to his hometown of Mankranso.[2]
2021–present: Recognition and international expansion
In May 2021, Genius KD was named Artist of the Year at the inaugural Ahafo Ano South Awards, organised by Lifestyle Dynasty Management and held at the Mankranso District Assembly Conference Hall.[2]
In 2023, he performed in Prjct Kumasi's Homesick Concert Series in Kumasi, Ghana.[2] His single "Kountenance", featuring KQTHEARTIST, appeared on VibrateGhana's Top 10 chart.
In 2025, Genius KD relocated to Germany, positioning himself within the European Afro-fusion music market while continuing to record and release music independently.[1]
