Draft:Grass Patch

Grass Patch

Grass Patch was an American rock band from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Active during the mid-1990s, the band is best known for its 1995 split 7-inch with fellow Florida band Milk-Shed and for having only one known surviving live recording.

History

Little is documented about Grass Patch's history beyond its lone official release. The band was based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and consisted of Ray Sousa, Josh Gibbs, Scott Hanzlik, and Alex Osuna.

In 1995, Grass Patch appeared on the split 7-inch A Field Guide to Crop Circle Activity, released by Space Cadette Records. The release was shared with Milk-Shed and remains the band's only official release. Grass Patch contributed two studio tracks, "Xenogamy" and "Whoa", while the release also includes a live recording simply titled "Live."

Musical style

Grass Patch performed guitar-driven alternative rock characterized by dual guitar arrangements, melodic bass lines, and energetic drumming. Ray Sousa served as both lead vocalist and guitarist.

Legacy

Grass Patch released only one official record before disbanding. The inclusion of the track "Live" on the split release represents the band's only known recorded live performance, making it the sole surviving document of Grass Patch performing live. Despite its limited output, the band's rarity has made the release a point of interest among collectors of obscure Florida independent rock from the 1990s.
