The Hallberg-Rassy 49 is a Swedish sailboat, that was designed by Olle Enderlein and Christoph Rassy. It was in production from 1982 to 1997 during which 89 hulls were built all from GRP. The yacht is a capable ocean cruiser for long passages and continual liveaboard use.[1][2][3]
Design
The yacht was initially built as a staysail ketch, however, most hulls were eventually produced as single mast cutter-rig sloops. The rigging was manufactured by Seldén Mast AB making use of an annodised aluminium alloy. The ketch rig includes 2 spreaders; wheras the sloop rig includes 3 on a keel-stepped mast.[1][4][5]
The hull is constructed from GRP laminate; which is often painted white with a blue strip above the rubbing strake; the hull is decribed to have an aggressive apperance with a high rising bow. It is described to provide comfort for constant liveaboard cruising as well as allowing for excellent handling on all points of sail. The yacht has multiple variants of interior plan; generally, the interior is designed from mahogany, teak, and holly wood and facilitates up to 8 berths.[2][4][5] In 1985, an interior plan was manufactured which included two armchairs in the saloon; this feature was the first for a yacht.[6]
