HashCortX is a local-first desktop artificial intelligence workspace that runs multiple AI agents on a user's own machine. It bundles chat, coding, multi-agent orchestration, sandboxed execution and other tools into a single application built on the Tauri framework, with the stated goal of allowing private agent workflows without transmitting user data to third-party servers.[1]
The application is developed by Seif Hashish, an Egyptian clinical pharmacist who began the project as an independent open-source effort and developed it in public.[1][2]

API keys for external model providers are stored in the operating system keychain rather than in plain text, and access to local files and shell commands is mediated by an in-app permission guard that records an audit log of each request.[1]
Architecture
HashCortX is built with the Tauri v2 desktop framework, combining a Rust backend with an HTML, CSS and vanilla JavaScript frontend.[1] The application is distributed as a native bundle for macOS (.app and .dmg), Windows and Linux. Source code is published on GitHub under the MIT licence; building from source requires Node.js 18 or newer and a stable Rust toolchain.[3]
History
The project was started in 2025 by Seif Hashish and developed in public, with progress updates posted on social platforms during its early phases.[4][2] Version 1.7 was released in early 2026, followed by version 2.0, which introduced the Agent Swarm and Virtual OS modules.[1] The developer reported growing community interest around the project during its early months.[5]
