INOMICS is an online platform for economics, finance and data science professionals. It includes listings of job opportunities, graduate programs, conferences, and career‑advice articles.

History and structure

INOMICS started as a search engine for economics in 1998.[1] The idea originated from a group of economists around Dr. Thorsten Wichmann, who launched and ran the service as a project of the economics research company, Berlecon Research.[2]

In 2010 INOMICS was spun out and founded as a separate company, with entrepreneur Andreas Hoffmann as CEO and many of the economists involved in its original establishment becoming board members.[3]

During the 2000s INOMICS shifted to include a job board and conference listings for economists. By 2010 INOMICS was recognised as one of the places where job openings for PhD Economists are listed as part of the annual economics job market.[4]

Since then it has expanded to include listings of courses and study programs, learning and teaching resources, and industry news. It has also expanded to cover the fields of finance from 2011 and data science from 2022, in addition to the original focus on economics.

Since 2014, INOMICS also runs a YouTube channel with learning videos for economics students.

Business model

INOMICS generates revenue primarily through paid announcements: institutions such as universities, central banks and government departments pay to publish job ads, program listings, scholarships, or event notifications.

Partnerships

The company has been featured by the Royal Economic Society, including articles on economics topics,[5] and in relation to economist salary surveys and student handbooks published by INOMICS.[6][7]

INOMICS entered into a partnership with the Economics Network in 2020[8][9] to share learning and teaching resources and information about economics careers.
