Education and career

Weinfeld studied architecture at Mackenzie University in São Paulo, where he also taught Architectural Theory.[1] Between 1974 and 1984 he co-directed fourteen short films with architect Márcio Kogan; the last, Idos com o Vento (1983), screened at film festivals in Gramado, Brazil and Huelva, Spain.[2]

Projects

Livraria da Vila, São Paulo

Weinfeld designed the Livraria da Vila bookshop in São Paulo, notable for a storefront made of pivoting glass-and-steel doors lined with books.[3] The project won the Shopping category at the World Architecture Festival in Barcelona.[4] Architectural drawings for the project were acquired by the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the V&A's first acquisition of work by a South American architect.[4]

360º Building, São Paulo

The 360º Building is a 20-storey residential tower in São Paulo in which each of the 62 apartments has its own private terrace.[5] It was presented at the World Architecture Festival and shortlisted in the housing category.[5]

Jardim, Manhattan

Jardim, completed in 2019, is Weinfeld's first completed building in the United States.[6] The development in Manhattan's West Chelsea neighbourhood consists of two 11-storey towers arranged around a multi-level garden, measuring approximately 150,000 square feet.[6]

Fasano Hotel + Residences, Miami Beach

Weinfeld was commissioned to convert The Shore Club, a historic hotel in Miami's South Beach, into a complex of hotel rooms and residences operated by the Fasano hospitality group.[7]

Recognition

Weinfeld's Fazenda Boa Vista Golf Clubhouse won the sports category at the World Architecture Festival.[5] The Livraria da Vila project won the Shopping category at the World Architecture Festival in Barcelona.[8] Architectural drawings from the same project are held in the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the institution's first acquisition from a South American architect.[8]
