Yasha Jacob Grobman (Hebrew: יעקב (יאשה) גרובמן; born 1967) is an Israeli architect, academic and museum director. A professor at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, he served as dean of the Technion Faculty of Architecture and Town Planning from 2019 to 2022. In 2026 he was appointed Anne and Jerome Fisher Director of the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.[1][2][3]

Early life and education

Grobman was born in Moscow in 1967. He studied architecture at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, received a master's degree from the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, and completed a PhD at the Technion. He later carried out postdoctoral research at the Harvard Graduate School of Design.[1]

Academic and architectural career

Grobman joined the Technion, where his work has focused on computational design, performance-oriented architecture, sustainable design, and digital fabrication. From 2019 to 2022 he served as dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Town Planning.[1][3]

In parallel with his academic work, Grobman practiced architecture through a private architectural office. His architectural work included public and institutional projects, among them the Porter School of Environmental Studies at Tel Aviv University, designed by a team that included Axelrod-Grobman Architects, Geotectura, and Chen Architects.[4]

Grobman was also associated with the concept of performalism, developed in relation to digital architecture and the relationship between form and performance.[5]

Israel Museum

In January 2026, Grobman was appointed Anne and Jerome Fisher Director of the Israel Museum, with his term beginning on 1 March 2026.[3] The appointment followed a prolonged period of leadership instability at the museum and was described in Israeli press coverage as the institution’s fifth leadership change within a decade.[1][2]
