KTXF-LP is an LPFM noncommercial educational radio station licensed to Lakehills, Texas, broadcasting on 93.5 MHz FM. The station is owned and operated by USA.Radio, a Texas-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and brands on-air as Texas Freedom Radio. KTXF-LP serves approximately 1,300 square miles of the Texas Hill Country with a signal reaching an estimated population of 200,000 people.
History
The concept for a community radio station serving the Texas Hill Country was first developed in June 2021 by residents of Lakehills, Texas. The station's broadcast tower was acquired and delivered from Colorado to the transmitter site in August 2021.
USA.Radio was incorporated as a nonprofit corporation in the state of Texas in October 2023. The organization submitted an application to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) during the LPFM filing window in December 2023. The FCC granted USA.Radio a construction permit in February 2024, authorizing the organization to assemble transmission equipment and erect the broadcast tower. The call sign KTXF was granted by the FCC on March 1, 2024; the letter "F" was chosen to represent "Freedom" — specifically, freedom of expression, freedom of thought, and freedom to be.
KTXF-LP will sign on the air on May 1, 2026.
Technical information
KTXF-LP broadcasts on 93.5 MHz with an effective radiated power (ERP) of 100 watts horizontally polarized and 100 watts vertically polarized (circular polarization). The antenna height above average terrain (HAAT) is 5 meters, situated 28 meters above ground level and 393 meters above mean sea level. The transmitter and studio are both located in Lakehills, Texas, in Bandera County.
As an LPFM station, KTXF-LP is authorized for noncommercial educational broadcasting only, in accordance with FCC CFR Title 47, Part 73, Subpart G, governing low-power FM radio stations. The station streams live at ktxf.org and through a free mobile application available for both Android and iOS devices.
