Liminal Land is a horror web series created by YouTubers Nexpo and Nick Crowley. The series revolves around a fictional theme park from the 1970s and 1980s called Liminal Land, located in Lake Valley, New Mexico and created as a direct competitor to real life theme park Disneyland. Within the story, the park closed in 1989 after several people disappeared from within it.[1]
Story
Liminal Land, a theme park located in Lake Valley, New Mexico, opened in 1975 with the goal of dethroning Disneyland as the premier destination for thrill-seekers of all ages. However, the park mysteriously shut down on May 20th, 1989. While no official reason was given by the Charon Corporation (the park's parent company), theories suggest it was due to several unexplained tragedies that occurred, multiple disappearances, injuries, and fatalities, or numerous attempted cover-ups. Despite all of this, Liminal Land's popularity appeared to grow prior to its closure. The remains of those present on the night of the park's closure are rumored to remain exactly where they were last seen.[2]
The theme park also had its own flagship accommodation, the Holistic and Opportune Mutual Experience (HOME). The project encompassed a large underground suburbia, with the goal of using the sensation of homeliness to keep guests inside the park for as long as possible in order to maximize profits. This led to quick family vacations often turning into extended, and even permanent stays.[3]
Attractions
Liminal Land included many attractions. 2 however, being unknown. The other attractions were,
- The Hall of Walls
- Paradise Playrooms
- Subliminal Land
- The Laugh Track
- Centrifuge
- Skyliner
- The Chrysanthemum
- Serpentine
- FUNHOUSE
- Invader Cave
The park was also home to a ride known solely as The Liminal Land Anomaly, which is believed to be a roller coaster. The ride was believed to be tied to several cases of severe facial deformity. Victims included:
- 42 year old, Rick Ackerman – In July, 1988, while he was visiting Liminal Land with his wife and 3 children, Rick snuck away to ride the Liminal Land anomaly alone. He was later found with his jaw in a disturbing and long open smile with his eyes appearing to be missing
- 44 year old, Lina Sorenson – In the winter of 1984, Lina took her first grade class on a trip to Liminal Land. At some point, she decided to take them to the Paradise Playrooms. However, after 7 minutes, Lina was seen leaving through a rear exit, leaving the students alone for 8 hours. Her body was found in a patch of dirt behind the Liminal Land Anomaly. Her face was disfigured in a similar way.
- 48 year old, Maria Ramos – In November, 1982, Maria visited Liminal Land alone. That same day, The Liminal Land Anomaly was reportedly closed due to a broken failsafe, which caused the ride to run numerous times per session. However, park employees spotted a woman (Believed to be Maria) near the ride controls. However, they did nothing to stop her. The ride ran nonstop for 26 minutes. After the ride was finally stopped, Maria was found with similar deformities, and most of her hair missing.[4]
