Draft:Marc Brunet

Marc Brunet is a Canadian digital artist, art educator, and entrepreneur. He is best known as the founder of ART School, an online art education platform, and for his work as a Senior Character Artist at Blizzard Entertainment, where he contributed to titles including Overwatch, StarCraft II, and Heroes of the Storm.[1][2]

Early life and career

Brunet was born and raised in Montreal, Canada.[3] He began his professional career as a comic book colorist, working on the TwinBlades miniseries published by Alias Enterprises[4] and Bra-Man No. 1, a spin-off comic based on the webcomic Least I Could Do, written by Ryan Sohmer and drawn by Lar deSouza.[citation needed] He subsequently studied 3D animation at Cégep du Vieux Montréal.[citation needed]

His first games industry role was at what is now Behaviour Interactive, a Montreal studio, where he worked as a hybrid concept artist and 3D modeler before relocating to Southern California.[3]

Blizzard Entertainment

Brunet worked as a Senior Character Artist at Blizzard Entertainment for approximately seven years.[1][3] During his tenure he contributed to StarCraft II, Heroes of the Storm, and Overwatch, the latter developed internally under the codename Project Titan.[3] In a 2016 public statement, Brunet described leaving Blizzard as "one of the hardest decisions" of his life, citing the demands of his growing business as the reason for his departure.[5]

Cubebrush

While still at Blizzard, Brunet founded Cubebrush, a digital marketplace for artists offering brushes, textures, tutorials, 3D assets, and other creative resources.[5][6] Upon leaving Blizzard in 2016, he assumed the role of full-time CEO of the platform, which he continues to lead as of 2026.[6]

ART School

Brunet launched ART School for Digital Artists, a structured online curriculum hosted on Cubebrush, in 2017.[2] The program comprises ten terms covering figure drawing, anatomy, perspective, digital painting, character design, environment art, and production techniques. Brunet has stated that the curriculum was developed by reviewing programs from traditional art schools worldwide and synthesizing their strongest elements with practical digital industry requirements.[7]

As of 2025–2026, ART School has more than 31,000 enrolled students.[7] The program received endorsements from Renaud Galand, Lead Character Artist at Blizzard Entertainment on Overwatch, and Simon Fuchs, Senior Artist at Valve Corporation.[7]

YouTube

Brunet operates a YouTube channel under the handle @ytartschool with approximately 1.8 million subscribers and over 120 million total views as of late 2025.[8] The channel covers digital painting techniques, art fundamentals, career guidance for aspiring professional artists, and commentary on the game art industry.
