The Master of Technology Management (MTM) is a master's degree offered by the Fisheries and Marine Institute (MI) of Memorial University of Newfoundland. The program is positioned for working and mid-level professionals in technology-related fields and emphasises applied learning through online coursework and (optionally) a research project route.[1]
History
Memorial University's Marine Institute announced the launch of a Master of Technology Management program in April 2010. At launch, the program was described as being offered through MI's School of Ocean Technology, delivered fully online, and focused on areas such as strategic planning, decision-making, and the management of technology-based organizations.[2]
Program structure
According to Memorial University’s academic calendar, students must complete a minimum of either:
- a comprehensive course route totaling 30 credit hours (including three core courses and electives), or
- a project route that includes the research project sequence (TECH 610A/610B) as part of the program requirements.[3]
The calendar lists core courses, including:
- TECH 6031 Overview of Technical Operations
- TECH 6032 Managing Technological Innovation
- TECH 6054 Technology Assessment[3]
The calendar also states that students must obtain a grade of B or better in all program courses, with limited allowances for repeating or substituting a course.[3]
Delivery
Memorial University describes the MTM as an online program designed to provide flexibility for students, with guidance on typical course loads by full-time and part-time status.[1] MI program information pages also list the campus as online and indicate multiple start terms (including September, January, and May).[4]
Admissions
A Marine Institute program summary lists admission as competitive and notes that applicants will normally have a second-class or better undergraduate degree (or equivalent), appropriate technology-sector and business-management coursework, and at least two years of relevant employment experience.[5]
