Matthew Pohlson is an American businessman. He is the Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Omaze, an entertainment company that holds raffles with charity partners.^[1]

Pohlson attended Stanford University, where he earned a B.A. in Economics and Political Science. During his time at Stanford, he befriended Omaze co-founder Ryan Cummins. Pohlson also holds an M.B.A. from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.^[2]

After graduating from Stanford, Pohlson worked as a consultant at McKinsey & Company before briefly pursuing an acting career, landing roles on Everwood and Scrubs. In 2007, he was one of the first directors of the environmental awareness benefit concert Live Earth. Pohlson is credited as a producer on the documentary Girl Rising.^[3][4]

Pohlson co-founded Omaze in 2012 with Ryan Cummins, establishing the company as a digital fundraising platform that originally partnered with celebrities to raise money for charitable causes.^[5]

In 2018, Pohlson experienced a near-fatal medical emergency during a surgical procedure, an event he later described as having a significant influence on his outlook and business direction of Omaze.^[6] In 2023, Pohlson fully transitioned Omaze to a house draw model and moved its headquarters to London.^[7] Pohlson has addressed public skepticism about Omaze's business model, stating in a 2026 interview that some people continue to believe the company is "a scam" despite its fundraising efforts.
