Mautic is an open source software platform for marketing automation. It enables the tracking of website visitors and email interactions with the aim of converting anonymous contacts into identifiable leads, which can then be addressed through various tools. Contacts can be segmented and integrated into marketing workflows in the form of campaigns, allowing them to receive information based on their purchasing or browsing behaviour.[1]
Mautic can be self-hosted, meaning data processing can be kept within an organisation's own infrastructure. Hosted versions are also offered by various providers as a Software as a service solution.[3]
Mautic can be used alongside other software to automate business processes. To this end, Mautic provides a REST API and various plugins for integration with other systems. This facilitates the exchange of data between customer relationship management systems, shopping cart software, sales force management systems, and Mautic. [4] [5]
History
Mautic was founded by David Hurley in 2014 with the goal of developing an open source marketing automation platform with capabilities comparable to those of commercial alternatives. The project was guided by a philosophy of broadening access to marketing technology for individuals and organisations of varying sizes.[1]
In 2019, Mautic was acquired by Acquia.[6]
In 2023, Acquia transferred all rights to Mautic to the Open Source Collective, making the software available under the GNU General Public License Version 3. Since then, Mautic has been funded through donations and is maintained and developed by the Mautic community on GitHub. Ruth Cheesley was appointed as Project Lead, a role funded through the Open Source Collective.[7]
