Meghan Petherick (née Tapley, born 1987 or 1988[1]) is an Australian politician, and has represented the district of Flinders in the South Australian House of Assembly since the 2026 state election. Petherick is an independent politician. Prior to her election, she was involved in Port Lincoln's fishing industry, working at Australian Southern Exporters, her family's business, and later The Prawn Store, which she and her mother established.

Life and career

Meghan Tapley was born to Anne and Graham Tapley in 1987 or 1988.[a][2][3] Anne was initially from Adelaide, but moved to Port Lincoln, where her husband Graham's family was based.[2] The Tapleys have fished in Port Lincoln for three generations, and Meghan assisted in running the shore-based operations of the Tapley family business, Australian Southern Exporters.[1][2] Alongside her mother, Tapley started The Prawn Store business in the early 2020s, selling prawn at markets across South Australia.[2] As of 2025, The Prawn Store had a shop in Port Lincoln.[4] Meghan Tapley was reported to have married Daniel Petherick in January 2025.[5]

In November 2025, Petherick announced she would contest the 2026 South Australian state election as an independent candidate, standing in the district of Flinders.[3][6] Petherick stated that her campaign for Flinders was centred around transport planning in the area to keep Eyre Peninsula producers competitive, and sustainability in the local seafood and farming sectors.[1][3][7] Petherick was successful at the 2026 state election, defeating Sam Telfer to be elected as the MP for Flinders.
