MotionGrey is a Canadian ergonomic furniture company based in the Vancouver area that sells standing desks, office chairs, and related workspace products. The company was founded by Andy Hsu, Alex Chan, and Gavin Cheung, and has focused on affordable ergonomic furniture for home-office and workplace use.^[1][2]

MotionGrey traces its origins to the University of British Columbia, where Andy Hsu and Alex Chan met while studying in the civil engineering department.^[1] According to the company, the idea for MotionGrey grew from the founders' interest in engineering, entrepreneurship, and the physical discomfort associated with long periods of sitting while studying and working.^[2]

The business initially sold gaming chairs, including a product called the Challenger gaming chair, before adding standing desks to its product line.^[2] BCBusiness reported that Chan encountered an early supplier while visiting a trade fair in China, and that Chan, Hsu, and Cheung later expanded the business into standing desks and other ergonomic furniture.^[1]

During the COVID-19 pandemic, MotionGrey experienced growth as demand for home-office furniture increased. The company later purchased two warehouses in Richmond, British Columbia, for approximately C$4 million.^[1]

MotionGrey sells ergonomic office furniture, including electric standing desks and office chairs, through its own website and online marketplaces. Its products have been listed by Canadian retailers such as Best Buy Canada.^[3]

In 2024, BCBusiness reported that MotionGrey generated about C$1.5 million in revenue in 2019 and approximately C$16 million annually by 2024, with about 90 percent of sales in Canada. The publication also reported that large corporate orders formed part of the company's business, including a C$300,000 order for a Vancouver company.^[1]

MotionGrey also sells to commercial and corporate customers. The company states that its commercial program supports bulk orders, office installations, local warehouse inventory in British Columbia and Ontario, dedicated account representatives, and custom-tailored ergonomic workspace solutions for corporate customers.^[4]

In 2025, CanadianSME Small Business Podcast described MotionGrey as an ergonomic furniture brand that had grown from flipping chairs on Craigslist to approximately C$18 million in annual revenue. The podcast also discussed the company's e-commerce model, marketplace partnerships, and plans for expansion into the United States and new product categories.^[5]

In 2024, MotionGrey co-founders Alex Chan and Gavin Cheung were named to BCBusiness's 30 Under 30 list.^[1] The same year, MotionGrey was named Young Entrepreneur of the Year at the Richmond Chamber of Commerce's 47th Annual Business Excellence Awards; Richmond News reported that the award recognized co-founders Alex Chan and Andy Hsu.^[6][7]
