Muhammad U. Faruque (born 1989) is a scholar of Islamic philosophy, Sufism, and environmental humanities, and an Associate Professor at the University of Cincinnati.[1] He completed his PhD at the University of California, Berkeley, and has held academic positions at Harvard University and Fordham University.^[1][2]

Faruque's research examines Islamic philosophy, Sufism, and cross-cultural perspectives on selfhood and ethics. In Sculpting the Self: Islam, Selfhood, and Human Flourishing (2021), he offers a multidimensional theory of the self through a dialogue between both Islamic and Western philosophical traditions.^[3]

Sculpting the Self has received widespread recognition in both academic and public forums. The book has been reviewed in several academic journals, including Comparative Philosophy, where it is recognized for its contribution to cross-cultural philosophy; Islam and Christian–Muslim Relations, which discusses its role in comparative theolog; and Asian Studies, which situates the book within contemporary debates on selfhood.^[4][5][6] Beyond academia, Faruque's work has reached broader audiences through various public-facing interviews and podcasts.
