The Head coach of NUFC is the individual responsible for the management of the club's first team. The role includes selecting the starting lineup, overseeing training, developing tactics, and supervising the coaching staff. The manager also works closely with the club's sporting department on player recruitment and long-term football strategy.

Newcastle has appointed numerous managers since the club was founded in 1892. Among the most notable are Joe Harvey, who guided the club to the 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, Kevin Keegan, Sir Bobby Robson, Rafael Benítez, and Eddie Howe.

Eddie Howe was appointed head coach in November 2021 after the club's takeover by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund-led consortium. During his tenure, he guided Newcastle away from relegation danger, qualified for the UEFA Champions League twice, and led the club to victory in the 2025 EFL Cup, ending a 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy. On 30 July 2026, reports indicated that Howe stepped down from his role after five years in charge, with Matthias Jaissle expected to succeed him.
