The National Mobilization Front (NMF; Dari: جبهه بسیج ملی) is an Afghan socio-political and paramilitary movement established in March 2026. The group was formed by a coalition of youth activists and former security personnel primarily from the northern and eastern provinces to oppose the Taliban-led government.[1][2]

History

On March 18, 2026, the NMF issued its formal declaration of existence via regional media outlets, including Radio Pakistan and Aaj News.[1][2] The timing of the announcement coincided with a period of heightened economic instability and reports of increased insurgent activity in the Hindu Kush region.

The group's leadership frames their movement as a "third wave" of resistance, distinguishing themselves from older political factions by emphasizing a "youth-led" grassroots structure.[2]

Ideology

The NMF's platform is centered on the following pillars:

Anti-Talibanism: The group views the current administration as a "usurper" regime that lacks international and domestic legitimacy.[1]

Social Justice: Advocacy for the restoration of women's rights and educational access.[2]

Nationalism: A focus on "national mobilization" to reclaim sovereignty from what they describe as extremist influences.[1]

Operations

While the NMF is primarily in its mobilization phase, it has claimed to have established underground cells in several provinces.[1] It operates in a landscape shared by the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRF) and the Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF), though its level of tactical cooperation with these groups remains unconfirmed.
