Netsplaining is a term coined to describe the tendency of researchers to use complex neural networks to achieve high predictive accuracy without actually explaining the underlying scientific or physical mechanisms [1]. Netsplaining can be contrasted with scientific theories or explanations, as neural nets generally lack detailed knowledge of the physical or biological systems.
