Nissrine Chaoudri (نسرين الشودري; born 1976), also rendered as Nisrine Chaoudri, is a Moroccan painter from Tétouan. Her work uses warm colours and large formats, with subjects drawn from nature and spirituality.[1][2]
Career
Chaoudri graduated from the National Institute of Fine Arts of Tétouan in 1998. She runs an art gallery and organises workshops for children and adults. A 2020 profile reported that she had held more than ten solo exhibitions between 2001 and 2019 and had participated in more than forty group exhibitions since 1997.[3]
In March 2019, Chaoudri presented the solo exhibition Spiritual Impulses at the Mohamed Drissi Gallery of Contemporary Art in Tangier. It comprised 52 oil-on-canvas works, most of them completed that year. The paintings combined natural landscapes, abstraction and references to Sufi spirituality.[2] Sayidaty noted the warm colours inspired by the landscape of Tétouan and her interest in large-format painting.[1]
In 2024, she directed the fourth International Festival of Plastic Arts in Tétouan. Organised by the Moroccan Association for Cultural and Social Development in partnership with her gallery, the edition brought together fifty artists from Morocco, Egypt and the United States.[4]
Artistic practice
In his 2020 profile, critic Ali Abdallah compared elements of Chaoudri's work to Impressionism, particularly its treatment of light, and discussed the place of spirituality in her compositions. Her paintings also incorporate figures, vegetation and geometric forms.[3]
