Paysend is a financial technology company headquartered in the United Kingdom that provides international money transfer services.[1][2][3][4]
History
Paysend was founded in April 2017 to facilitate cross-border transfers using card-to-card payment infrastructure, as an alternative to traditional bank-based international transfer networks such as SWIFT for consumer remittances.[5][4] In 2021, the company was ranked third in the Deloitte UK Technology Fast 50, which recognized it as one of the fastest-growing technology firms in Britain with a four-year growth rate of 14,498%.[6]
In May 2021, the company raised $125 million in a Series B funding round led by One Peak Partners, with participation from Infravia Growth Capital and Hermes GPE.[1] This round valued the company at approximately $700 million.[1] Following this investment, Paysend expanded into North America and entered an open banking partnership with Plaid.[1][2][7] In 2022, the company established its America's headquarters in Miami, Florida.[3] In 2023, Paysend opened a European office in Dublin to oversee its EU operations.[8] The company also maintains a technology and development hub in Belgrade, Serbia.[4]
Later in 2023, Paysend secured a strategic investment of $65 million led by Mastercard to expand its cross-border payment services for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).[9]
Services
Paysend’s consumer offering allows individuals to send money directly to bank accounts, payment cards, and digital wallets. In 2023, the company collaborated with Visa's API for cross-border payments, the partnership between has facilitated real-time money transfers to Visa debit cards in over 100 markets and territories.[10] The company offers API-based solutions that allow fintech firms to access Paysend’s payment infrastructure.[9]
