Philip A. Casey (1982)[1] is an American executive and non-profit leader.[2][3][4] Casey is known for service and leadership on behalf of non-profits, charities, philanthropic institutions, and governments.[2][3] This includes university endowments, charitable foundations, public pension funds, and eleemosynary institutions.[3][5] His leadership is in service of mission-oriented non-profits that have shared values in a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, women's rights, climate change, academic freedom, and equality.[2] Casey has ties to Ivy League university endowments and foundations as an advisor and institutional investor.[3][5] Casey is the founder and CEO of Institutional LPs.[2][3]

Education

Casey has a PhD from Princeton University and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.[1][6]

Career

The Yale Endowment Model used by Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, and MIT relates to Casey's non-profit service.[2][5] This includes the challenges that university endowments have in using the Yale model during times of economic uncertainty.[7] Such uncertainty includes the Trump administration's tariffs and trade wars. This also includes the Trump administration's actions against Harvard, Columbia, and UPenn over alleged civil rights violations.[2] Casey's non-profit contributions involve private equity, its lack of liquidity, and its susceptibility to liquidity crisis in times of economic uncertainty.[5][7] Casey has advised university endowments and foundations on these topics.[3]

During Harvard's standoff with the Trump administration, Casey has been a supporter of academic freedom at Harvard.[2][3][5] He stated that it's a perfect storm of academic freedom in the crosshairs of the Trump administration at a time that universities are vulnerable due to financial uncertainty of their endowments and private equity investments.[2]

Harvard Business School based a case study on Casey.[4] In it, he discussed his career as an executive and non-profit leader. This included the Yale Endowment Model developed at the Yale University endowment and its significance for university endowments to be managed in a diverse and inclusive manner.[4] Casey has provided advice and analysis to the United States government on these topics in testimony to the legislative and executive branches.[8] He has also been the chairman and a director of related companies and investment institutions.[9]

Casey led development of technology for non-profits at Analytic Investors and Wells Fargo acquired the company.[6][10] Wells Fargo acquired the company for its technology to expand into high-growth areas of investment management.[10][11] This included big data, machine learning, and quantitative techniques.[12]

For the Wells Fargo Championships on the PGA Tour, Casey led analysis and commentary for PGA champions.[13] These champions have included Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy, and Scottie Scheffler.[13] Beyond the Wells Fargo Championships, Casey has done this for major PGA championships. These championships have included The Masters, U.S. Open, PGA Championship, British Open, and The Players Championship.[14]
