Polypipe Building Products, part of Genuit Group Plc (formerly Polypipe Group) is the UK’s leading manufacturer of plastic piping systems and low-carbon heating solutions for the residential market.

With over 4,000 product lines, Polypipe Building Products works with developers, installers and merchants to provide above and below-ground drainage systems, rainwater management solutions, hot and cold plastic plumbing products, and energy efficient heating systems.

The company was founded in 1980 by Kevin McDonald, a former plumber, and Geoff Harrison in Doncaster. McDonald identified a gap in the market for plastic piping systems that could replace traditional materials like clay and copper, capitalising on emerging manufacturing technologies to lower production costs.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the company expanded rapidly through a series of acquisitions, including Sud Ouest Plastiques (France), TDI, and Gabo Systemtechnik. By 1999, the company had grown significantly enough to be acquired by the engineering group IMI plc for approximately £337 million.

In 2005, IMI sold Polypipe to Castle Harlan, a US private equity firm, for £293 million. Two years later, in 2007, a management buyout (MBO) led by David Hall returned the company to independent control. During this period, the company continued to expand its portfolio, acquiring the ventilation manufacturer Silavent in 2010.

In April 2014, the company was floated on the London Stock Exchange as Polypipe Group plc, raising capital to fund further expansion and debt reduction.

In March 2021, the parent company, Polypipe Group plc, rebranded as Genuit Group plc. The name change was intended to reflect the group's broader focus on climate management and sustainability beyond just piping. However, the core customer-facing businesses retained the Polypipe brand name due to its strong recognition in the UK construction trade.

Today, Polypipe Building Products operates as a distinct business unit within the Genuit Group, focusing specifically on the residential sector, while sister divisions focus on Civils (Polypipe Civils and Green Urbanisation) and Building Services (Polypipe Building Services).

Polypipe Building Products manufactures over 4000 product lines, primarily from its sites in Doncaster. The company's portfolio is divided into several key categories:

• Plumbing & Heating: Includes the popular PolyPlumb and PolyMax ranges of push-fit plumbing fittings and polybutylene pipes.
• Above Ground Drainage: Systems for soil and waste management, including rainwater goods (gutters and downpipes) and traps.
• Below Ground Drainage: Sewer pipes, inspection chambers, and fittings designed for residential groundwork.
• Underfloor Heating (UFH): Water-based underfloor heating systems for new builds and renovations.

The company distributes its products primarily through builders' merchants, plumbers' merchants, and DIY retailers across the UK and Ireland. As part of the Genuit Group, Polypipe Building Products has invested heavily in using recycled materials. The company processes significantly high volumes of post-consumer waste (such as plastic milk bottles) to manufacture its products.

• Operation Clean Sweep: A commitment to ensuring zero plastic pellet loss into the environment during manufacturing.
• Circular Economy: A partnership with Wolseley Plumb Centre^[1] launched in 2025 to allow installers to return waste plastic for recycling, diverting tonnes of material from landfills.
