  • Comment: I reached the view that this was AI assisted (or similar tool) wording before I read the history of the article. The phrases are exactly those used by assistive technology. This was not an entirely human produced draft in my view: The platform has been integrated into clinical research workflows for dataset curation and remote image review - that is not how humans write. and it is using AI implied promotional terms such as "curation". PostDICOM is a cloud-based DICOM viewer and picture archiving and communication system, or PACS. A 2024 paper about web-based DICOM viewers included PostDICOM in a survey of viewer features. The same paper also included it in performance testing after image files had been uploaded. Other medical imaging papers have mentioned PostDICOM as the viewer used to open or assess image files.[1][2][3]

Overview

PostDICOM is used to view and manage DICOM image files through a web browser. The 2024 paper described PostDICOM as software for examining and handling DICOM files. It listed functions such as multiplanar reconstruction, measurement tools, annotation, patient data storage, and cloud PACS storage.[1]

Evaluation in DICOM viewer research

The paper Web-Based DICOM Viewers: A Survey and a Performance Classification included PostDICOM in a review of web-based DICOM viewers. The study compared viewers by access, interface features, 2D and 3D viewing, browser performance, and operating system performance.

The paper included 16 viewers, surveyed 12, and tested seven with online demos. PostDICOM met 20 of the 29 listed metrics. It was listed behind OHIF, MED3WEB, and MedDream. Upload time was not counted in the rendering measurements.[1]

Use in medical imaging studies

A 2021 paper in Insights into Imaging discussed DICOM and medical imaging data management. The paper mentioned PostDICOM when discussing DICOM-SEG and DICOM-SR data.[2]

PostDICOM was also mentioned in a paper about radiologic assessment after total elbow arthroplasty. In that paper, radiographs were uploaded to the DICOM viewer PostDICOM after identifiable patient information was removed. Observers then evaluated two sets of radiographs using the viewer.[3]
