RG Crystals (formerly known as RusGems) is an international manufacturer and supplier of synthetic gemstones. The company started in Russia before expanding manufacturing to Thailand.
History
The company was founded in Russia in 1997 under the name RusGems. In 1999, the company opened its first manufacturing facility in Russia, focusing on the production of cubic zirconia (CZ) and synthetic corundum via the Verneuil process.[1]
In 2012, the company established a manufacturing plant in Thailand, subsequently moving its headquarters to Bangkok.[2] The company later expanded its regional distribution network by opening offices in Hong Kong and China.[1] The corporate identity subsequently transitioned to RG Crystals.
Products and synthesis methods
RG Crystals produces laboratory-grown materials, including synthetic rubies, sapphires, emeralds, alexandrites, spinels, rutiles, cubic zirconia (CZ), and yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG). The company utilizes several crystal growth technologies:[3]
- Flame fusion (Verneuil method): Used for the production of conventional synthetic corundum and spinels.
- Hydrothermal method: Employed to grow synthetic emeralds, quartz, and corundum varieties that replicate natural inclusions.
- Horizontal directional crystallization (HDSM): Utilized for growing large-scale, high-melting-point crystals.
- Czochralski process: Used to grow crystals, such as YAG and specific sapphires, from a melt using a seed crystal.
The company's synthetic materials and trade show exhibitions have been noted in reports by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). This includes an overview of its flame-fusion bicolor synthetic sapphires exhibited by its Bangkok office,[4] as well as studies utilizing its yellow synthetic sapphire.[5]
Nanosital and glass-ceramics
The company developed a proprietary glass-ceramic material registered under the trade name Nanosital. The material can withstand temperatures up to 1700 °C and replicates the optical properties, hardness, and luster of natural gemstones.[6]
The global marketing and distribution of this product line are managed by an independent sister company operating under the Nanosital brand.[7]
