Robyn Martin is a New Zealand food writer and cookbook author. She was food editor of the Auckland Star and later the New Zealand Woman's Weekly, where she succeeded Tui Flower and served as food editor for more than two decades.[1] She has written and contributed to numerous cookbooks during her career as a food writer and recipe developer.[1]
Early career
Martin began her career in food writing in the 1970s, working as a junior assistant in the test kitchen of the New Zealand Woman's Weekly under food editor Tui Flower.[2] She later studied Home Science at the University of Otago before returning to food publishing as a home economist.[2]
In 1988 Martin was reported as a member of the steering committee of the New Zealand Guild of Food Writers, an organisation established to promote professional standards in food journalism.[3]
Career
Martin became food editor of the New Zealand Woman's Weekly in 1984, succeeding Tui Flower. A 2009 profile of her eventual successor Helen Jackson noted that Jackson became the fourth food editor in the magazine's history, after Tui Flower, Robyn Martin and Julie Le Clerc.[4]
During her career Martin also worked in food publishing and recipe development. In 1992 she served as a judge for the New Zealand Chicken Cooking Contest.[5]
Her recipes have also appeared through Radio New Zealand, including in connection with the Saturday Morning programme.[6]
Cookbooks
Martin has written and contributed to a number of cookbooks focused on home cooking and New Zealand food. Her cookbook Cooking the New Zealand Way was reviewed by The Press in 1995, with the review discussing its layout, photography and pricing.[7]
Her cookbook Stop the Clock: The Anti-Aging Cookbook was reviewed by the Otago Daily Times in 2004, which discussed Martin's approach to healthy cooking and recipes from the book.[8]
Other cookbooks associated with Martin include Café Style Food, Easy as 1 2 3 and New Zealand Woman's Weekly Fabulous Food.
Later work
Following Tui Flower's death in 2017, Martin became involved in projects connected with Flower's legacy, including fundraising activities associated with the Tui Flower Foundation.[9]
