Rocket Zone is a Finnish free browser game released in 2026. It belongs to the cave-flying genre, in which the player controls a rocket affected by gravity by rotating it and applying thrust. The game includes a single-player mode against computer-controlled opponents and a local two-player mode played on the same computer.[1]
Gameplay
The player controls a rocket in a two-dimensional arena. Gravity continuously pulls the rocket downwards, while the player controls its flight by rotating it and applying thrust. Using thrust consumes a limited supply of fuel.[1]
Walls and other structures restrict the available flight paths. The player must control the movement of the rocket, avoid collisions with the environment and fight other rockets. Navigation and combat take place within the same continuous arena.[1]
In single-player mode, the opponents are controlled by the computer and the player can select their difficulty. In local two-player mode, two players control separate rockets on the same computer. The game can be controlled using a keyboard, gamepad or joystick.[1]
At launch, Vacuumos was the only playable arena. It is a cave-like science-fiction environment in which walls and other structures affect both navigation and combat.[1]
Genre and influences
Cave-flying games generally involve controlling a craft affected by gravity by rotating it and applying thrust. Early examples of the genre include Gravitar and Thrust.[2]
According to Juho Kuorikoski of Pelit, Turboraketti was the best-known representative of Finnish cave-flying games and inspired several variants in the Finnish shareware scene.[3]
The game's official description names Turboraketti, Gravity Force and Thrust as its main influences. Rocket Zone is an independent game and is not an official sequel to or remake of any of the earlier games.[1]
Development
Rocket Zone was developed in Finland. It was made using the Phaser game framework, while its two-dimensional physics are simulated using the Rapier physics engine.[1]
