Sam Beres[‡ 1][‡ 2][‡ 3] (born: June 14, 1996 [age 30])[‡ 4], better known online as Sambucha, is an American YouTuber mostly known for his YouTube Shorts. His shorts cover a large variety of real-life topics, including statistics, challenges, and other sorts of data. He also regularly produces long-form videos that mainly focus on reaction, reviewing content, and challenges like "doing X until someone notices" or "I Tested ___".

History

Sam created his YouTube channel on January 1, 2020, and uploaded his first video, titled "Wikipedia Speedrun", on January 22, 2021. He reached 1 million subscribers in 2021.[‡ 5]

Sam used to be a Twitch streamer and a TikTok content creator before he started YouTube, and worked at a bank before his social media career. He states that having the opportunity to meet many people of all different cultures while going to college in New York is what incentivized him to study geography in passing, which in part is what led him to become as accomplished as he currently is in GeoGuessr.

Personal life

Beres was born to Phyllis and Glen Beres on June 14, 1996, in Freehold, New Jersey, United States. He was raised alongside three sisters named Emily, Casey, and Sophie, who run a sneaker studio named "brushedbysophh." His father passed away suddenly when he was 16 years old for unknown reasons.[‡ 6] He attended Freehold Township High School in Freehold, New Jersey, United States and played varsity football and baseball.[1] He enjoyed his middle and high school years as he excelled in his studies and made many memories there.[‡ 7] He has been living in New York City for 6 years, where he studied finance and management at New York University's Stern School of Business.

Beres has traveled to places like Japan, Italy, Morocco, the Czech Republic, and VidCon, which he has posted photos of in his community tab.[‡ 8] After getting fired for unknown reasons from his Investment Banking job at Barclays Bank New York (This was stated in a video), he has moved back to New Jersey. He owns a cocker spaniel named Bruno.[‡ 9] He is also a devout Christian and holds faith in the Catholic denomination.[‡ 10]

On May 29, 2026, Beres announced that he got married, sharing 10 pictures of his wedding, captioning the event “Pretty cool, right?” on his channel.[‡ 11]

Early life and education

Beres began his career in finance, working as an Investment Banking Analyst at Barclays[‡ 12] after graduating from New York University Stern School of Business.[‡ 13][better source needed]

Content

He has received recognition mainly from the short videos that he uploads. These shorts are essentially videos of him reacting to certain things. He then moved on to uploading videos, completing Scattergories runs (consisting of every letter of the alphabet), if something is underrated or overrated, his favorite foods, patterns studied in human behavior, stats about other countries, data of different things, would you do this for -, among a plethora of similar topics.

Beres’ YouTube videos are long-form. In his lengthier videos, he uploads a wide variety of content, such as gaming (specifically GeoGuessr), reactions, challenges, Wikipedia speedruns, and miscellaneous videos.

On May 3, 2021, Beres created a second channel named Sam2cha, where he has uploaded said long-form videos. He has since stopped uploading on his second channel but he has recently uploaded remakes of popular videos and has maintained a steady upload schedule regarding both short and long-form content on his main. He spoke at a Vidsummit conference at some point during September 2022 and in September 2024.[‡ 14]

His comment section has become notorious and infamous among his viewers and the community alike for containing copypastas. These comments can mainly be found in his shorts, where his viewers poke fun at him for questionable things he says in his videos in the form of saying "Sam is the type of guy to [aspect mentioned in the video]". There are also a few of these comments that replace "Sam" with "Luigi", possibly due to a moustache he grew and had in previous videos. He has lampshaded his annoyance for this in one of his videos.[‡ 15]

YouTube career

He launched his YouTube channel in 2020, initially gaining attention for "Wikipedia Speedruns" before pivoting to YouTube Shorts.[citation needed] In 2024, Sambucha participated in Ludwig's Streamer Games as a member of Team YouTube.[‡ 16] In 2025, he won the Dual-Format Creator of the Year Award at the 17th Annual Shorty Awards.[‡ 17] In January 2026, he received international press coverage for a viral video in which he spent 45 minutes working as a fraudulent employee at a Best Buy location.[2]
