Draft:Samuel Kane

  • Comment: Please note that standing as a candidate in a future election that the person has not already won is not grounds for a Wikipedia article. The inclusion criterion for politicians is holding a notable office, not just running for one, while unelected candidates get articles only if they already had preexisting notability for other reasons besides the candidacy. But this draft is failing to show that. Bearcat (talk) 20:25, 28 May 2026 (UTC)

Samuel Isaiah Kane is an American trial lawyer and Republican politician based in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He is the founder of the Law Office of Samuel I. Kane, P.A. (doing business as Kane Personal Injury), a personal injury law firm he established in 2004.[1] Kane is the presumptive Republican nominee in the 2026 New Mexico Attorney General election, challenging incumbent Democrat Raúl Torrez.[2][3][4]

Early life and education

Kane earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida.[1] He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Miami School of Law, graduating magna cum laude and being inducted into the Order of the Coif.[1]

After law school, Kane served as a federal law clerk to United States District Judge Robert C. Brack of the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico.[1] In 2004 he founded the Law Office of Samuel I. Kane, P.A. in Las Cruces, focusing on personal injury and wrongful death litigation, including automobile, motorcycle, trucking, aviation, and premises liability claims.[1]

For several years Kane held the public defender contract for the City of Las Cruces, handling misdemeanor cases including driving under the influence.[1] He is admitted to practice law in New Mexico and Texas.[5]

Aviation and mission work

Kane is a licensed commercial pilot. A January 2021 profile in the Las Cruces Sun-News described his use of his pilot's license for humanitarian and faith-based mission trips to South America.[1]

2026 Attorney General campaign

Kane filed as a Republican candidate for Attorney General of New Mexico in the 2026 election cycle.[4][6] At the Republican Party of New Mexico's pre-primary convention in Ruidoso in March 2026, Kane was confirmed as the party's unopposed candidate for the office after receiving 412 delegate votes.[2][3] His campaign, run under the banner "Sam for New Mexico," has emphasized public-safety themes including combating methamphetamine and fentanyl trafficking and supporting law enforcement.[7]
