SavATree is a North American tree, shrub, and lawn care company founded in 1978. It operates in more than 35 states and has expanded organically and through mergers and partnerships.

SavATree was founded by New York-based arborist Ralph Robbins in 1978 in response to widespread damage caused by gypsy moth (now called spongy moth) infestations in the northeastern United States. In its early years, the company focused on plant health care treatments targeting insects and mites such as elongate hemlock scale, borers, elm bark beetles, aphids, spider mites, and birch leaf miner.

In 1983, Robbins was joined by Daniel van Starrenburg, a graduate of the University of Massachusetts arboriculture program, and the company was formally incorporated in January 1985. Around this time, SavATree introduced its logo and focused its services on environmentally sensitive plant health care programs for residential clients in Westchester County, New York and surrounding areas.

Between 1985 and 1990, the company began to develop approaches that moved away from the traditional reliance on synthetic chemicals that were common in the industry. SavATree introduced a Natural Organic Program (NOP) using organic materials, horticultural oils, and other alternatives intended to prevent the emergence of insects.

This work laid the foundation for SavATree’s proprietary ArborPatrol® plant health care program. The program is structured around regular site visits by arborists and emphasizes early detection of disease, insect activity, and environmental stressors to allow targeted treatments to be applied as needed.

The biostimulant is made from seaweed sustainably harvested from the nutrient-rich waters off Nova Scotia.
