Scan Global Logistics (SGL) is a Denmark‑based global freight forwarder and third-party logistics provider headquartered in Hvidovre, Denmark. The company offers asset‑light logistics services across air, ocean, rail and road transportation, as well as warehousing and project logistics, supporting international supply chains.
History
The origins of Scan Global Logistics trace back to logistics activities established in Denmark in 1975 and 1989. The modern corporate entity was formed in 2007 following the merger of Mahé Freight and ScanAm Transport.[1]
In 2009, Scan Global Logistics entered into a strategic alliance with U.S.-based TransGroup Worldwide Logistics, expanding its transatlantic presence. In 2016, both Scan Global Logistics and TransGroup were acquired by the private equity firm AEA Investors, accelerating the company’s international expansion through mergers and acquisitions.[2]
In February 2023, CVC Capital Partners acquired a majority stake in Scan Global Logistics from AEA Investors. Following this transaction, former Maersk chairman Nils Smedegaard Andersen was appointed chairman of the board.[3]
Industry publications have reported that from 2023 to 2025, the company continued to expand through acquisitions and greenfield investments aimed at strengthening its presence in key global markets.[4]
Operations
Scan Global Logistics operates as an asset-light freight forwarder. Its core services include air freight, ocean freight, road and rail transport, warehousing, and specialised project logistics.
The company serves customers across industries, including automotive, aviation, energy, pharma and healthcare, retail, manufacturing, government, and humanitarian aid and relief.
As of the mid‑2020s, Scan Global Logistics operates from more than 200 locations across over 60 countries.[5]
During periods of geopolitical uncertainty affecting global trade, freight forwarders such as Scan Global Logistics have been cited by international and Danish media in explaining how international transport and supply chains are affected.[6][7]
Logistics providers, including Scan Global Logistics, have been cited in international reporting in connection with adjustments to major shipping routes and their implications for international freight transport.[8]
For example, the Financial Times cited Scan Global Logistics in its reporting on global shipping route disruptions, noting shifts in transport modes and changes in freight demand linked to evolving trade conditions.[9]
Ownership and management
Scan Global Logistics is privately held and majority owned by the private equity firm CVC Capital Partners.[10]
The company is led by Allan Melgaard, who has served as Global Chief Executive Officer since 2017.[11]
