Shufti (legally Shufti Pro Limited) is a British identity verification and regulatory technology company headquartered in London. Founded in 2017, it provides automated identity verification and anti-money laundering (AML) compliance technology, including face and document verification, know your customer (KYC), know your business (KYB), electronic identity verification (eIDV) and video-based verification.[1][2]
History
Shufti Pro Limited was incorporated in England and Wales on 31 October 2017, with a registered office in London.[1]
In March 2022, the company raised US$20 million in a Series A funding round led by Updata Partners, a technology-focused growth equity firm.[3]
In June 2022, Shufti was approved to provide identity verification services for regulated gaming operations in the US states of Louisiana and West Virginia.[4]
In September 2023, Shufti was recognised as a Representative Vendor in the Gartner Market Guide for Identity Verification.[5] The same year, the company was also named a Sample Vendor in the Gartner Hype Cycle for Digital Identity 2023.[6]
In October 2023, Shufti announced it had surpassed 20 million digital identity verifications and expanded its services to every major business sector globally, including banking, fintech, gaming, healthcare, insurance and e-commerce.[7]
In February 2026, Shufti launched its VideoIdent product in the DACH market, covering Germany, Austria and Switzerland, targeting banks, payment providers and fintechs operating under regional AML regulations including BaFin Circular 03/2017 (GW) in Germany and FINMA Circular 2016/7 in Switzerland.[8]
In June 2026, Bulgarian national eID provider Evrotrust signed a partnership agreement with Shufti to integrate Shufti's identity verification and VideoIdent capabilities into Evrotrust's digital trust platform for the DACH region.[9]
Independent evaluations
In the United States Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate's 2025 Remote Identity Validation Rally (RIVR), an independent government evaluation conducted at the Maryland Test Facility, Shufti was one of five of sixteen tested systems to meet all performance goals in the selfie-to-document matching track; the other publicly identified vendors meeting all goals were Paravision, Aware and Incode.[10][11]
In May 2026, Shufti's passive facial liveness detection technology passed iBeta Quality Assurance's Level 3 Presentation Attack Detection (PAD) evaluation under ISO/IEC 30107-3 on both Android and iOS, recording a zero per cent attack presentation classification error rate and zero per cent bona fide presentation classification error rate on each platform.[12] According to the company, the result made it the first European company to achieve iBeta Level 3 conformance on both platforms using a single-selfie passive approach.[2] Shufti had previously completed iBeta Level 1 conformance in 2024 and Level 2 in 2025.[12]
Products and services
Shufti's products include face verification, document verification, KYC and AML screening, electronic identity verification, video KYC (VideoIdent), business verification (KYB) and address verification.[2][8]
