Comment: "Highly acclaimed" in sentence 2, and promotional through out. Sack the robot and do this yourself. ChrysGalley (talk) 11:38, 22 June 2026 (UTC)
Simone Angelini (born October 17, 1980) is an Italian comics artist and illustrator.
Career
Born in Chieti and active in Pescara, Angelini began working in independent comics and fanzines. His early short stories were collected in the anthology Storie Brevi e senza pietà (2012). This book was translated into English and published in the United States by Tinto Press in 2014 under the title Short and merciless stories.[1]
His works have been published by Italian publishers including Coconino Press and Panini Comics.[2] [3]In 2015, he illustrated the graphic novel Anubi, followed by Malloy il Gabelliere Spaziale in 2017 and Quattro vecchi di merda in 2018. The latter was translated into French and published by Éditions Rackham as 4 Vieux Enfoirés. [4]In 2022, he published Storie Zitte with IFIX, and in 2025, the graphic novel Rifrazione Fantasma with Coconino Press.
In 2018, Angelini founded the alternative comic book festival Zapp! in Pescara.[5]
Cultural and Institutional Activities
Since 2023, Angelini has been a member of the Scientific Committee of the CLAP Museum (Comics Lab Art Pescara), which houses works by Andrea Pazienza.[6] He contributed articles to Tutto Pazienza, a collection published by L'Espresso and Coconino Press. In June 2026, he spoke at PAZ 70, a cultural event organized by the Apulia Region celebrating the 70th anniversary of Andrea Pazienza's birth.[7]
In 2020, Angelini participated in Fumetti nei Musei, a project by the Italian Ministry of Culture and Coconino Press.[8] He authored the comic book Il tema di Ascanio, set at the National Museum of Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome.[9] In 2021, he donated a self-portrait to the permanent collection of the Uffizi Galleries in Florence.[10][11]
International Reception and Awards
His graphic novel Anubi won the Micheluzzi Prize (presented by Repubblica XL)[12] at Naples Comicon in 2016, and the Boscarato Prize for Best Comic at the Treviso Comic Book Festival in the same year.[13]
The animated adaptation of Storie Zitte received a special mention at the Animator festival[14] in Poznań, Poland, and was screened by the Department of Media and Film Studies at Birmingham–Southern College in Alabama, United States, during the Hilltop Film Festival of Diversity and Inclusion.[15]
British comic historian Paul Gravett included Anubi in his selection of notable international comics for 2015.[16] His work was also cited by American artist Lee Bermejo during events related to Vertigo Comics.
