Speed Symboli (Japanese:スピードシンボリ, May 3, 1963 - May 31, 1989) was a Japanese racehorse and sire. In the late 1960s, he won the Tenno Sho (Spring), Takarazuka Kinen, and Arima Kinen twice in 1969 and 1970. In 1967, he was selected as the Japanese Horse of the Year and in 1970 was awarded the JRA Award for Best Older Male Horse. He had a long racing career, winning all eight major races[a] at the record-old age of eight, and in his later years, he was called the "Old Hero." Additionally, he undertook the rare long-term expedition to Europe at the time, becoming the first Japanese horse to compete in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes in the UK and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in France, earning him a reputation as a pioneer of his time.[1] His main jockey during his career was Yuji Nodaira.
