Draft:Speedpuzzling

Speedpuzzling is a competitive mind sport revolving around solving jigsaw puzzles as fast as possible. It may be practiced individually, typically with 500 piece puzzles, or in team with puzzles that can range from 500 to 2000 pieces. The skill set required to successfully compete generally includes fast hand movement, rapid visual recognition, good spatial reasoning and mastery over an array of solving strategies. The competitive scene of solving a jigsaw puzzle as fast as possible started in the United States in the 1980's.[1] From there, it slowly spread to the rest of the world and has developed from a niche hobby into a global organized activity with international competitions, leader boards and governing bodies.

The first World Jigsaw Puzzle Championship, organized by the World Jigsaw Puzzle Federation, took place in 2019 in Valladolid, Spain. The championship has been hosted there every year since, with the exception of 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.[2]
