Spotler is a Dutch marketing technology company headquartered in The Hague. It develops and sells software for email marketing, marketing automation and customer data management, and operates in several European markets, including the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Germany.[1][2]

The company traces its origins to two Dutch email-marketing businesses, Blinker and MailPlus, both established in 2004.[3] In November 2016 the private equity firm CNBB Equity Partners acquired a majority stake in their parent company, Bright Marketing Holding, and the two businesses were merged under the Spotler brand in 2017.[2][4] Spotler subsequently grew largely by acquisition, first consolidating email-marketing providers in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom and later adding software in areas including customer data platforms, e-commerce personalisation, customer service, customer relationship management and event management.[1][5][6]

In May 2025 the Dutch mergers-and-acquisitions publication MenA reported that the company had reached its twelfth acquisition since coming under CNBB ownership, and described this buy-and-build approach as the mechanism of its growth.[6] Spotler operates as part of the holding company Spotler Group; independent coverage uses both names.[1][6]

History

Origins (2004–2016)

According to the company, Blinker was established in 2004 as a digital marketing agency specialising in email communications, and MailPlus was founded in the same year to develop email marketing automation software.[3] The two companies were subsequently held under a common parent, Bright Marketing Holding, which Computable later identified as Spotler's corporate origin.[4]

Computable described the Dutch market for email services in this period as undergoing consolidation, with Spotler among the companies acquiring smaller domestic providers.[4]

Formation of Spotler (2016–2017)

The company's modern form dates from November 2016, when CNBB Equity Partners acquired a majority stake in Bright Marketing Holding. Tech.eu and MenA reported that the investment was made with the stated intention of building a European marketing technology business through acquisitions and organic growth.[2][6]

In June 2017 Blinker and MailPlus were merged and rebranded, and the combined business began trading as Spotler.[4][3]

Expansion in email marketing (2018–2021)

Spotler's first phase of expansion concentrated on email marketing and marketing automation. In 2018 the company entered the United Kingdom market by acquiring CommuniGator, a British business-to-business marketing automation provider.[2][4]

Acquisition activity intensified in 2020. In June the company acquired the Dutch businesses Measuremail, Spike and Tripolis, which Computable reported as a consolidation of the Dutch email-services market.[4] In October Spotler acquired Webpower, its fourth acquisition of that year. Tech.eu reported the transaction in the context of consolidation across the European email-marketing sector, noting the company's stated ambition to lead its home market and linking the acquisition programme to earlier funding.[2]

The company extended its presence in the United Kingdom in 2021 by acquiring Pure360, a British marketing automation platform.[1][6] In 2023 the Dutch operations of Spotler, Tripolis and Flowmailer, an earlier acquisition, were brought together under the single Spotler brand.[7][8]

Diversification beyond email (2021–2023)

From 2021 the company's acquisitions extended beyond email into adjacent software categories.[1] The 2021 acquisition of Squeezely added a customer data platform and website personalisation software.[1][9]

In April 2022 Spotler acquired OBI4wan, a Dutch company providing social media monitoring, publishing and customer service software. Computable reported that the acquisition extended Spotler into customer service and social engagement, and gave details of the company's growth and European customer base at that time.[5]

Emerce and MenA report that further acquisitions during 2023 added on-site search and e-commerce personalisation software, through Sooqr, Shopping Minds and Datatrics, and customer relationship management software, through the British company Really Simple Systems.[1][6]

In the same period Spotler entered the German market by acquiring the Berlin-based customer data platform CrossEngage, a transaction documented in a long-form interview with CrossEngage's founders published by Startbase.[10][1]

European expansion and adjacent markets (2024–2026)

Acquisitions continued through 2024 and 2025. Emerce and MenA report that the company moved into event technology, beginning with the Dutch event management platform Momice, and expanded its United Kingdom operations by acquiring the marketing automation providers RedEye and Hive Marketing Cloud.[1][6] Further transactions in 2025 added customer feedback management, through Insocial, and brand portal and digital asset management software, through Capital ID.[1][6]

In December 2025 Emerce published an assessment of the company's strategy following three further acquisitions, examining its approach to integration, its market positions and its ownership, and reported that further transactions were anticipated.[1]

Products and services

Spotler develops and licenses software used by organisations to manage communications with customers and other contacts. Independent coverage describes its products as spanning email marketing and marketing automation, customer data platforms and website personalisation, on-site search, customer relationship management, customer service and social media monitoring, event management, customer feedback management and digital asset management.[1][6][5]

Emerce reports that the company has entered most of these categories through acquisition rather than internal development, and that products are marketed predominantly under the Spotler name, while some acquired brands continue to operate under their own names.[1]

Organisation

Spotler is majority-owned by the private equity firm CNBB Equity Partners, which acquired control of its predecessor in 2016.[2][6] Additional investors, including EverBlue Capital, have participated in the ownership structure.[11] In December 2022 the company secured €30 million in growth financing.[12][13]

The company is headquartered in The Hague[3] and has operations in several European countries, including the United Kingdom and Germany.[1][10]

According to Emerce, Spotler has not applied a single integration model to the businesses it acquires, with some products absorbed into existing systems and others retained separately.[1] Consolidations of acquired Dutch operations were reported in 2023, when Spotler, Tripolis and Flowmailer were combined under one brand, and in 2024, when OBI4wan, Spotler Nederland and Squeezely were brought together as one organisation.[7][8][9]

The acquisitions below are those identified in independent coverage of the company. The list is not exhaustive; MenA reported twelve acquisitions as of May 2025, and Emerce reported further transactions later that year.[6][1]
