Draft:Squam Archives Center

  • Comment: For notability to be proven, you need to have sources devoted entirely to talking about the SAC itself, not just brief mentions of it in articles on other subjects. Commandant Quacks-a-lot (talk) 15:06, 7 July 2026 (UTC)

  • Squam Archives Center

The Squam Archives Center (SAC) is a non-profit organization with the mission to acquire, preserve, and make accessible historical documents and memorabilia unique to the Squam Lakes (New Hampshire) region, including organizations, families, and individuals from the townships of Ashland, Center Harbor, Holderness, Moultonborough, and Sandwich. SAC was founded in 2016 and is currently headquartered in Holderness, New Hampshire.

The Squam Archives Center’s archival holdings include histories and archival documentation of camps, organizations, hotels and inns, families and individuals in the form publications, manuscript papers, journal and diaries, photographic and audiovisual material, maps, and artwork. Of note in the holdings are the organizational files of the Squam Lakes Association, Twombly Family scrapbook and photographs of Camp Chocorua (Chocorua Island),[1]and the Bradford Washburn[2] Collection, containing records of the mapping of Squam Lake.[3]

    Background

The Squam Archives Center originated from a sub-committee formed in 2012 by the Squam Lakes Conservation Society (SLCS) to preserve the extensive research collected for the book Squam (2004) by Rachel Carley and the 2011 initiative by SLCS to document several historic lake properties for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. In 2016, the committee formed the Squam Archives Center, becoming an independent nonprofit organization. SAC's office and archival facilities are housed at the Squam Lakes Association in Holderness, New Hampshire.[4] SAC has received support from the Squam Lakes Environmental Preservation Fund[5] and the Edwin S. Webster Foundation.[6]
