"Suki" is a song by Chinese-Canadian rapper Eric Reprid. It was released on February 1, 2024, as a single later placed on his sixth album, "Fuck You" (2024). The song garnered significant attention across social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram because of a lyric in the song's chorus about "bussy."[1]

Composition

"Suki" samples a traditional Japanese folk song known as "Usagi Usagi [うさぎ うさぎ]" [Rabbit, Rabbit].[2]

Release and reception

"Suki" was released as a standalone single on February 1, 2024.[3] Shortly after its release, clips of Reprid performing "Suki" circulated widely on TikTok, X, and Instagram, drawing attention for the song's chorus lyric referencing the slang term "bussy," in which Reprid raps, "I've fucked so much pussy, I might switch to bussy."[4] The chorus drew attention for the homosexual connotations of the verse, because "bussy" is a popular slang word for "boy pussy."[5][6] The lyric was perceived by critics as a potential "coming-out" announcement by Reprid, with Pride.com's Andrew Stillman writing, "Many viewers wonder if Reprid actually knows what he said, whereas others wonder if he just made a soft attempt at coming out in his song."[7]

LGBTQ publications such as Out.com noted the song's use of queer slang in mainstream hip hop. Out.com's Mey Rude writes, "...Reprid is causing the word to have a minor 'bussysance,' as the artist used the popular gay term in his new song "Suki.'”[8] Complex's Jaelani Turner-Williams questioned Reprid's comprehension of "bussy" in a review of "Suki," writing "[Reprid] made it even more hilarious by the fact that he poured Hennesy into a cup of Shin Ramyun before the performance—while others joked that Reprid must not know the meaning of the word 'bussy.'" LiFTED Asia writes, "While LiFTED was at first unsure that Eric knew what bussy was, because in the LGBTQIA+ community, it stands for the male version of female genitalia. But after thinking about it, the line does make sense and it’s a pretty hard bar."[9]

Many YouTubers and streamers have reacted to "Suki." Streamer Plaqueboymax has reacted to the song, and gave it a negative review. In reaction to this, Reprid would later drop a disstrack against Plaqueboymax titled "tothemax," in which Reprid rapped numerous criticisms about Plaqueboymax's hairline. Former FaZe Clan member and streamer Jasontheween would also react to "Suki," and lauded the song as "fire."[10]

Music video

An accompanying music video, directed by Bryant Hyun and Shamlo,[11] was released on May 11, 2024.

Additionally, Reprid released a live microphone performance of "Suki" on February 1, 2024. The live performance was noticed for having a clip of Reprid pouring Hennessy into a plastic bowl of Shin Ramyun instant noodles, before consuming them.[12] Reprid later picked up noodles from the bowl with chopsticks and tossed them to the floor while rapping.
