Draft:Tara Sharp

Tara Sharp is an American marketing executive and entrepreneur. She is known for leadership roles in the technology and telecommunications industries, including serving as chief marketing officer (CMO) of Sonic, a Santa Rosa-based internet service provider.[1], and CMO of satellite communications company Viasat. She previously led marketing and growth for several of Google’s consumer subscription products [2] and co-founded the food brand 18 Rabbits Organics [3] and Sonoma County winery Captûre Wines [4].

Career

In 2008, she co-founded Captûre Wines in Sonoma County with her then-husband Ben Sharp and the Foster family[4]. The winery later became part of the Jackson Family Wines portfolio following an acquisition in the mid-2010s. She served as vice president of marketing and strategy for the brand.

Around the same period, Sharp helped to found 18 Rabbits Organics, an organic granola and granola bar company based in the San Francisco Bay Area [3].

Sharp joined regional internet service provider Sonic in the early 2010s as the company’s chief marketing officer. [1][3] While at Sonic, she was recognized for her leadership, including receiving the North Bay Business Journal Women in Business Award in 2016. [1][3]

After leaving Sonic, Sharp joined Google, where she worked on consumer subscription services. She oversaw marketing and growth for products including Google Fi and Google One [2]. She left the company after being included in a wave of layoffs affecting 12,000 employees [2].

In 2024 Sharp became chief marketing officer at Viasat [5], a global satellite communications company, where she led marketing during a period of growing interest in satellite connectivity and AI-driven customer experiences [5][6]

In 2024 & 2025 she appeared in Traction’s “Futureproof Project” series, including a live virtual event from the World Economic Forum in Davos.[5][6] She has also been featured as an expert on startup resilience and marketing in Founders Network programming.[2]
