Tek-One is a British electronic music project fronted by producer Howard Newman. The project released music through H.E.N.C.H Recordings and received coverage from outlets including Dazed and LouderSound.[1][2] In live coverage, Tek-One was described as a trio consisting of Newman, drummer James May and MC Tonn Piper.[3][4]

Career

2009–2010: Early releases and collaborations

In March 2009 Tek-One released the single Broken String / You Fo.[5] The track "Broken String" was later uploaded by the UKF Dubstep YouTube channel.[6]

Dazed reported in 2010 that producer A1 Bassline formed the label Tighten Up Records with "long-time pals Tek-One and Kavsrave", and that the label’s first release included the collaboration "Arrakis 97" with Tek-One.[1] The track was also uploaded by UKF Dubstep.[7]

In 2010, Bring Me the Horizon announced Tek-One as support for a UK club tour alongside Cancer Bats.[8]

2011: Touring

In 2011, music outlets listed Tek-One as support on Breathe Carolina’s UK tour dates.[9][10]

A live review from Hit The Floor described Tek-One as a live dubstep act consisting of producer Howard Newman, MC Tonn Piper and a drummer, in coverage of a 2011 show with Breathe Carolina in Exeter.[4]

Also in 2011, idobi listed Tek-One as support on the Scream It Like You Mean It tour in North America.[11]

In late 2011, Tek-One was announced as a support act on Architects’ UK tour with Heights and Deaf Havana.[12] A contemporary live review of Architects at the O2 ABC in Glasgow described Tek-One’s line-up as Howard Newman, James May and Tonn Piper.[3]

2012: Enter Shikari tour support

In January 2012, Enter Shikari support announcements listed Tek-One and Young Guns for UK dates in March 2012.[13] A March 2012 live review also noted Tek-One as the opening act on a tour date.[14]

2014: Are You There / End of and Sleep Equals Myth

Tek-One released the single Are You There / End of in February 2014 on H.E.N.C.H Recordings.[15] LouderSound reported on the single, noting it featured Bury Tomorrow vocalist Jason Cameron.[2]

Later in 2014, Tek-One released the album Sleep Equals Myth on H.E.N.C.H Recordings.[16][17]

2024: Translate EP

In February 2024, Tek-One released the EP Translate (℗ 2024 6105847 Records DK).[18]

Live performances

Tek-One appeared in Rock Sound’s Sonisphere Festival 2011 video coverage.[19]

Tek-One was listed in published stage-time coverage for Slam Dunk Festival 2011 (Leeds).[20]

Tek-One was also listed in Ghostfest 2010 stage times coverage.[21]

Media appearances

"Broken String" appeared on the licensed soundtrack for the 2010 video game Crackdown 2, as reported by games media including GamesRadar and Engadget.[22][23]

Game credits for DiRT 3 list "LHC Blues" as performed by Tek-One, with Howard Newman credited as writer and composer.[24]
