Location

The Three Fates is a painting by the 17th century Italian painter Sebastiano Mazzoni. Painted in 1670, this painting depicts The Three Fates, classical figures in Greek mythology who decide the fate of mortals. At the top, Clotho holds a Spinning Whorl which the Thread comes out of. in the middle, it is gathered by Lachesis and at the bottom, Atropos holds out her shears. A snake accompanies the Fates, a symbol of evil and a broken column behind them, symbolizing a life cut short.[1].

Provenance

The painting was painted in 1670 for its own uses by Sebastiano Mazzoni. The paintings provenance is unclear until 1990 where it was purchased by the Barber Instutue of Fine Arts[2]
