Timothy "Tim" Blodgett (born 20 June 1984)[1] is an American association football coach and former player. A retired staff sergeant in the United States Marine Corps and Purple Heart recipient, he has represented the United States in international football at both Paralympic and senior over-40 levels.

Early Life and Education

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served until attaining the rank of staff sergeant.[2][3]He completed combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, sustaining wounds in Afghanistan when his convoy struck an improvised explosive device on 17 July 2010. He was subsequently awarded the Purple Heart.[3][4] While on active duty he represented the Marine Corps as a football player.[5]

Playing Career

Blodgett was selected for the United States national Paralympic 7-a-side team. In a 2017 fixture against Chile he scored two international goals, in the 57th and 58th minutes.[6]

In 2025 he joined the United States senior men's over-40 national team.[5] He was named the team's Player of the Year in 2025.[5] He represented the United States at the Over-40 World Cup in Thailand in 2025 and 2026, scoring against Hong Kong in the former tournament and against Taiwan in the latter.[5]He was selected for the 33-man training squad ahead of the 2026 tournament.[7]

Coaching and club administration

Blodgett holds a UEFA C coaching licence, a United States Soccer Federation B coaching licence, and a Master of Science in Soccer Coaching from Ohio University.[5][8] He was the first student approved for Ohio University's Yellow Ribbon Program scholarship for veterans.[8]

From 2016 to 2025 he served as technical director of San Lee FC, a club based in Sanford, North Carolina.[5][9] During his tenure the club established a player development pathway from introductory football for children aged three and four through recreational, competitive youth, school-based, adult amateur, and semi-professional levels.[5] San Lee FC competed in the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) and won the Mid-Atlantic Conference championship in the fall of 2018.[5]

Blodgett has also coached boys' and girls' high school football at Grace Christian School in North Carolina.[5] He has served as a director of coaching at a local North Carolina club, overseeing technical development, coaching education, and curriculum implementation.[5][8]

Personal life

Blodgett resides in Sanford, North Carolina, with his wife, Jen, and their two sons, Talin and Ryker.[8]
