Triangle Seeds (formerly Triangle Hemp) is an American cannabis seed company founded in 2017 by Matt Spitzer and Chase Werner. The company produces and sells cannabis seeds, including autoflowering, photoperiod feminized, mixed pack, and CBD varieties, to home growers across the United States. Seeds are sold as federally legal hemp under the 2018 Farm Bill.
History
Matt Spitzer and Chase Werner, childhood best friends and graduates of NC State University, previously operated a hydroponic vegetable business in Durham, North Carolina.[1] They were among the first growers to sign up for licenses through North Carolina's industrial hemp pilot program when it launched in 2017.[2]
The company initially operated under the name Triangle Hemp, producing seeds and transplants for commercial hemp growers enrolled in the state's pilot program to produce CBD oil.[1] Spitzer described the early hemp industry as following an S-curve trajectory, with an initial period of rapid growth followed by a nationwide oversupply in 2019 that caused prices to fall sharply.[2]
The company later transitioned its focus from commercial hemp production to selling cannabis seeds directly to home growers nationwide, operating under the name Triangle Seeds. The company reports having produced and sold over one million seeds.
Operations
Triangle Seeds sells cannabis seeds online through its website, trianglehemp.com, shipping to home growers across the United States. Its catalog includes autoflowering strains, photoperiod feminized strains, mixed packs, and CBD strains. Seeds are sold as federally legal hemp under the 2018 Farm Bill.
The company offers grow guides, germination resources, and strain-specific growing advice alongside seed sales.
Founders
Matt Spitzer is a North Carolina native and NC State University graduate. He and Chase Werner operated a hydroponic lettuce and tomato farm called Endless Sun Farms before entering the hemp industry.[2] Spitzer has spoken publicly about the challenges facing hemp growers, including regulatory uncertainty and market volatility.[2]
Chase Werner is a childhood friend of Spitzer and fellow NC State University graduate. The two co-founded Triangle Hemp in 2017 and later transitioned the business to Triangle Seeds.[1]
