TrojanTrack is an Irish equine technology company that develops a smartphone-based gait analysis platform for horses. The system uses mobile video, computer vision, and machine learning to detect movement patterns and generate biomechanical reports for trainers and equine professionals. History
TrojanTrack was founded in 2021 in County Kildare, Ireland, by Stephen O'Dwyer. The company was initially based at the Irish National Stud as part of an early-stage research and development phase. In 2022, TrojanTrack was profiled in The Irish Times for its work in using video-based motion analysis to detect subtle gait abnormalities in racehorses.[2]
The company participated in University College Dublin’s AI Ecosystem Accelerator and other early-stage enterprise programmes. Its product development focused on markerless motion capture and the automated extraction of equine gait variables from smartphone footage.
Technology
TrojanTrack’s platform uses pose-estimation algorithms to analyse smartphone videos of horses walking in-hand. The system tracks anatomical landmarks and generates data on stride patterns, limb symmetry, range of motion, and other biomechanical indicators. It is designed to support trainers in identifying early signs of lameness or movement irregularities.[3]
TrojanTrack states that its software uses deep learning and motion-analysis pipelines to process 4K and 60 FPS videos. The company positions the tool as an aid for performance monitoring and early-warning detection rather than a diagnostic system.
Funding and recognition
TrojanTrack has received support from Enterprise Ireland, including pre-seed funding and participation in state-supported innovation programmes.[4] The company has also been backed by private angel investors from the equine sport and technology sectors.
In 2023 and 2024, TrojanTrack was involved in several Irish startup competitions. It won the "One to Watch" award at University College Dublin’s AI Ecosystem Accelerator and received recognition in equine-industry coverage for its application of artificial intelligence in animal movement analysis.[5]
