Um Sam An is a Cambodian politician and former Member of Parliament.
Early life and education
Political career
Legal issues and arrest
In April 2016, Um Sam An was arrested after returning to Cambodia from a trip to the United States.[1] In October 2016, he was sentenced to two and a half years in prison after being convicted of making social media statements regarding alleged Vietnamese border encroachment, which authorities said could incite public disorder.[1]
He was later imprisoned following the court ruling. In 2018, he was granted a royal pardon by King Norodom Sihamoni at the request of Prime Minister Hun Sen.[1]

Personal life
Um Sam An holds United States citizenship and owns a home in Lowell, Massachusetts.[2]
He has a wife and son who reside in the United States, and he has traveled there to visit them.[2]
In 2015, he traveled to the United States to attend to personal affairs and meet members of the Cambodian-American community.[2]
