Vicky Fang is an American children's book author and illustrator. A former product designer at Google, where she worked on technology products for children, she has written or written and illustrated more than twenty books for young readers, including the Layla and the Bots, Friendbots, and Ava Lin series.[1][2] In 2026 she co-wrote the picture book Spaghetti Code with the model and entrepreneur Karlie Kloss.[1][3]

Fang worked as a designer of children's technology products, and began writing to promote early STEAM education, particularly for girls and children of color.[1] Her debut picture book, Invent-a-Pet (Sterling, 2020), illustrated by Tidawan Thaipinnarong, was described by Kirkus Reviews as an appealing introduction to scientific experimentation.[4] The same year she launched Layla and the Bots, an early chapter book series illustrated by Christine Nishiyama for Scholastic's Branches line, whose first installment, Happy Paws, was praised by Kirkus for pairing STEM lessons with the portrayal of a young girl of color as a confident inventor.[2] Her author-illustrator debut, the Friendbots early comics series, was published in HarperCollins' I Can Read Comics line and reviewed by Kirkus.[5] Her Ava Lin chapter book series (Candlewick Press, 2024–2025), which draws on her Chinese American family's experiences, received reviews from Kirkus, Publishers Weekly, School Library Journal, and Booklist.[6][7]

In July 2026, Roaring Brook Press published Spaghetti Code: A Story About Problem-Solving, Pasta, and the Power of Big Ideas, written by Karlie Kloss with Fang and illustrated by Remi Jose, the first title in a five-book deal between Kloss and Macmillan focused on coding and technology.[1] Publishers Weekly reviewed the book as a comedic STEM story combining cooking and computing.[8] The book's launch was covered by People and on Today.[3][9] Fang's early graphic novel One Mad Cat and the Missing Book (Candlewick, 2026) was named a 2026 Junior Library Guild Selection and was reviewed in The British Columbia Review, which characterized it as a dryly humorous take on the graphic-reader format featuring a protagonist comfortable expressing strong feelings.[10][11] Fang is based in North Vancouver, British Columbia.[11]
