Early Life

Born to Anna Mogilova Reinstein and Boris Reinstein in 1894, Victor Reinstein was born in Buffalo, NY and raised in nearby Cheektowaga, NY when the family relocated in 1904.

Education

Reinstein received an education in Buffalo's public school system, graduated from Masten Park High School in 1912. He then followed in his parents' footsteps, earning a degree from the University at Buffalo Department of Medicine in 1916. Reinstein later received a law degree from the university as well.[2]

Upon returning home, Victor expanded his real estate holdings in Cheektowaga, his primary area of business. At one point, Victor Reinstein was considered to be among the landowners in Cheektowaga with the greatest land holdings.[2]

Philanthropy

Victor Reinstein was one of Cheektowaga's most influential philanthropists. In his life and by his estate, Victor donated land for Steiglemeir and Nokomis Parks and, most notably, developed Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve.

Victor purchased the land that would become Reinstein Woods in 1932 and spent the next several decades stewarding the land as a private nature preserve, along with his songs Robert and Victor Reinstein Jr. Together, the Reinstein family planted 30,000 trees and constructed 19 ponds, marshes, and swamps on the preserve.[2]

A proponent of education, Reinstein also built the Anna M. Reinstein Memorial Library and Julia Boyer Reinstein Memorial Library, named after his mother and his second wife (who was deeply influential in both the Cheektowaga Libraries and Erie County local history circles).

Family Life

While pursuing his law degree, Victor met Honorine Thiele. They married in the mid-1920s and had two children together, Victor Reinstein, Jr. and Robert Reinstein. Honorine died of tuberculosis in 1937 and Victor named the approach to Reinstein Woods after her.[2]

Victor met his second wife, Julia Boyer Reinstein, during WWII. They were married on September 28th, 1942 in Baltimore, MD. Together, Victor and Julia had one daughter, Julie Anna, in 1948.[2]

Death

Victor Reinstein died on May 27th, 1984.[2]
