Vocal Image is an Estonian educational technology company that develops a subscription-based mobile application for communication coaching using artificial intelligence.[1] The company is based in Tallinn and operates as Vocal Image OÜ.[1][2]
History
Vocal Image originated from a YouTube channel created by Nick Lahoika and vocal coach Maryna Shukiurava, which they later developed into a mobile application.[1] Lahoika, who was born in Belarus and had struggled with speaking anxiety and unclear diction, became the company's chief executive, and Mikalai Karaliou joined as co-founder and chief technology officer.[1] The founders left Belarus following the 2020–2021 Belarusian protests and relocated to Estonia, where the company was incorporated as Vocal Image OÜ in February 2021.[1][2]
After moving to Tallinn, the company took part in the Startup Wise Guys accelerator and won several startup pitch competitions, including the European AI Startup Program organised by Hugging Face, Meta and Scaleway.[1][3] In April 2025 it was included in Time's list of the world's top educational-technology companies.[4]
In August 2025 the company raised a US$3.6 million seed round led by the French education-technology fund Educapital, with participation from Specialist VC and Generations Fund.[1][5][6] At that time it reported about 4 million downloads and around US$12 million in annual recurring revenue.[1][7]
Product
Vocal Image is a mobile application for communication coaching that combines voice-training exercises with AI-generated feedback.[1][7] Its content includes drills such as tongue-twisters and breathing exercises, together with guidance aimed at professional communication skills such as public speaking and presentation delivery.[1] The app has increasingly incorporated AI roleplay scenarios in which users rehearse high-pressure conversations, such as salary negotiations and other workplace situations.[3] It is available in several languages, including English, Spanish, German, French, Ukrainian and Russian.[1]
